ZZ Top History
ZZ Top was founded in 1969 and is now celebrating its 51st year together. Guitarist Billy Gibbons, vocalist-bassist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard performed together for over 50 years. Sadly, Dusty Hill passed away in 2021.
Billy Gibbons originally founded the Moving Sidewalks band before starting ZZ Top in 1969. ZZ Top’s first album was titled ZZ Top’s First Album and came out in 1971. The group became known for Gibbons’ blues guitar style and Beard and Hill’s rhythm. Dusty Hill and Billy Gibbons became known for their iconic long beards and sunglasses look.
ZZ Top’s music can be described as Texas blues, Southern rock, blues rock, boogie rock, or hard rock. In addition, they’ve been called loud, traditional, and very Texan.
ZZ Top entertained fans during Super Bowl XXXI in 1997. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. The Rolling Stone rated Gibbons as one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
By 2021, ZZ Top had become the longest-running band still featuring original members. During their incredible career, ZZ Top has released 15 studio albums and sold 50 million albums around the world.
Raw Whisky Tour
The Raw Whisky Tour will travel to 50 different venues across America. Raw Whisky refers to the band’s latest album and celebrates the release of ZZ Top Tres Hombres whisky. This whisky is bottled in Waco, Texas, and features 100% proof whisky crafted with roasted blue corn, rye, and malted barley.
ZZ Top’s new album is titled Raw and was recorded during the That Little Ol’Band From Texas documentary recording featured on Netflix. The Raw album is dedicated to Dusty Hill’s memory.
