At the state park, there’s a looped trail up to where the pictographs are located. At this location, you can learn more about the prehistoric hunters that called Montana their home. Learn about the early history of Montana and the first habitation of the area. Around the cave sightings, there are several informative posts as well as rangers that are available for any questions that may arise while you explore the park. The state park offers a unique part of Montana history. The prehistoric hunters who camped at these caves left behind thousands of artifacts and over 100 pictographs as well. The oldest rock art cave that has been found in the cave is over 2,000 years old. There are three main caves at the park: Pictograph, Middle, and Ghost cave. These caves were formed through wind and water storming against the sandstone cliffs.
